5 Santorini Highlights (in photos)

April 23, 2016 By: Themusicalmeanderess1 Comment

I’m sure you’ve all seen pictures of Santorini. The glittering ocean, white-washed, blue-domed buildings, the narrow, winding streets through idyllic towns, the stunning sunsets. Santorini is on many peoples’ ‘dream destination’ lists.

Santorini checks all the boxes. It’s a short ferry-ride form mainland Greece. The island even has an airport that offers multiple flights a day (though this might contribute to high tourism levels…if you’re seeking peaceful beaches where you will be the only tourist for miles, Santorini may not be for you).

It’s beautiful. There is plenty to do. It is well set-up for tourism, with plenty of hotels and restaurants. Santorini produces some of Greece’s best wines (Vin Santo, anyone?).

On this small island, you can truly satisfy most activity desires. Exploring ruins, a relaxing beach day, hiking along the rim of an ancient volcano…all of these can be done on the island.

Need some more convincing? Check out these beautiful reasons:

  1. Unique Beaches that look like this. (Red and Black Sand Beaches)

2. A casual lunch with a view:

3. Incredible Sunsets (especially from the top of the caldera – think about staying in or around Oia, Fira or Imerovigli for the best view)

4. House stacked on hours, and splashes of colour everywhere. This is the beauty of Oia.

5. Wine tours look like this:

As a bonus: this is a tiny bookstore with a beautiful rooftop patio in Oia. It was started by three Europeans who fell in love with Santorini and decided to relocate permanently. Its absolutely incredible!

Movie Monday: Lost Roads of Jerusalem

I spent the last week between Jerusalem and Bethlehem. Let’s just say that the movie Monday that typically covers the week will only fit one of them in! Enjoy the first this week, and come back for Bethlehem next week!
